The environmental officer provides advice and guidance, analyzes environmental problems related to laws, regulations, policies and programs, must carry out various projects according to the priorities of the environmental program, must provide training and conduct environmental compliance audits. The main environmental aspects considered are the hazardous materials management, halocarbons, the petroleum product storage systems management, contaminated sites management, species and their habitats.
The Fisheries and Oceans Canada building is located at 104 Dalhousie Street, in the heart of the Old Port of Quebec City, on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. The building is close to restaurants, parks and walking and running trails, a public market, etc. Employees have access to amenities such as showers, changing rooms and a secure bicycle room, allowing them to commute to work using the Quebec City bicycle path system. In addition, the Employee Social Club offers a program of activities depending on the season.
There are two components to this process:
- Stream 1: Environmental Compliance
- Stream 2: Contaminated Sites Management
The intent of this process is to fill one (1) temporary one-year position (French essential) on the Environmental Compliance Team.
A pool of qualified candidates for each of the components will be created and may be used to fill similar permanent or temporary positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

EDUCATION
Streams 1 and 2
Bachelor's degree with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or other science related to the position.
EXPERIENCES
Streams 1 and 2
- Recent and significant* experience in providing environmental advice and recommendations.
Definition of 'Environmental': a field related to environmental compliance management, pollution prevention, contaminated site management, environmental protection or resource conservation.
- Recent and significant* experience in analyzing and interpreting scientific data and writing environmental technical reports or documents.
- Recent and significant* experience in managing environmental projects and/or delivering environmental programs.
Stream 2
- Recent and significant* experience in contaminated sites management, including the performance and analysis of characterization, rehabilitation or risk management work.
*Recent and significant experience means 2 years of experience acquired over the last 5 years.
Various language requirements
Various language requirements such as Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB and French Essential.

KNOWLEDGE
Stream 1
- Knowledge of the main federal and provincial (Quebec) laws related to environmental protection.
Stream 2
- Knowledge of the main federal and provincial (Quebec) legislation related to environmental protection and contaminated sites management including the Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites Rehabilitation Policy .
- Knowledge of characterization, risk analysis/management and remediation of contaminated sites practices.
ABILITIES

- Ability to communicate orally.

Stream 1
