The Chief Engineer is responsible for controlling the operation and running the maintenance of the physical plant containing low and high pressure boilers and a wide range of HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning). Duties include:
• Setting up and monitoring mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment and performing adjustments as necessary.
• Responding to calls, troubleshooting, and carrying out servicing, repairs, and legislated maintenance.
• Directing/supervising shift engineers in all aspects of their duties to properly operate and power/heating plan.
As one of the 20 research sites in Canada, the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre is located in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Lethbridge site is responsible for conducting various agricultural research studies for the Government of Canada. This position works in conjunction with a staff of 20 other employees to support the research by ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure are maintained in accordance with regulated maintenance and codes as well by meeting the requirements of the research programs at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre.
The immediate need is to staff one position for a two year term.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

A minimum of a Fourth Class Stationary Engineer certificate issued by the Province of Alberta OR the equivalent, transferable certification from another province.

Experience in operating and maintaining a low pressure steam plant, auxiliary equipment, and HVAC equipment.
Experience coordinating and scheduling contractors in order to effectively plan maintenance and repair activities.
Experience operating Electronic Building Management Systems.
Experience performing Chief Engineer duties of a high pressure steam plant.
