Assisting in rearing a wheat midge laboratory colony. Conducting bioassays to evaluate novel wheat traits against wheat midge. Data collection of oviposition and larval development of wheat midge. Preparation of a thesis containing all results.
University of Saskatchewan and Saskatoon Research and Development Centre.
The duties of this project require the successful candidate to be physically present to work in the SRDC wheat midge colony during the school year and at the AAFC Saskatoon Research Farms in the growing season. Enrollment at the University of Saskatchewan is essential with the SRDC wheat midge colony on the University of Saskatchewan campus.

Graduation with an undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a specialization in Plant Sciences, Agriculture or Entomology. Currently enrolled/or willing to enroll in a Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in: Plant Sciences, Entomology, Agriculture.
Experience* in identifying growth stages of crop plants.
Experience* in field monitoring of insects.
Experience* in evaluation of insects and plant interaction in an agricultural context.
Experience* in agricultural data collection
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge of pest insects in Canadian agriculture.
Knowledge of wheat cultivation in western Canada.
Knowledge of experimental design in biology or agriculture.
Reading and writing in English.
Ability to identify major insect pests of field crops.
