Candidate's will be responsible for their own travel.
The duties of this position include installing, repairing, overhauling, designing and fabricating canvas, leather, rubber and synthetic products. As well as developing templates and patterns through various methods of layout.
The vacant position is in the Department of National Defence's Fleet Maintenance Facility in Victoria, British Columbia. This is a shipyard environment where a successful candidate would be supporting trade specific requirements on Canada’s strategic platforms including but not limited to Victoria Class Submarines, Halifax Class Frigates, & Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel’s.
The intent of this process is to staff one position immediately on a term basis of approximately one year. A pool of candidates will be created for future vacancies of various tenures.

Education:
• Successful completion of secondary school or an employer approved alternative.
Experience:
• Recent* and significant** experience working in the Sailmaker or similar trade (such as Industrial Sewing, upholstery, tarp or boat cover manufacturing).
• Experience operating industrial sewing machines.
*Recent is defined as obtained within the past 8 years.
**Significant is defined as normally obtained over a period of 4 years.
Asset Experience:
• Experience in shipyard sail making
• Experience in life raft maintenance and repair
• Experience in certification of lifesaving equipment
• Experience in upholstery
• Experience in wet suit manufacture and repair
• Experience in dry suit repair
• Experience in inflatable boat repair
