The duties involved will depend on the field of science that the labor position is required in, but tasks will be assigned in areas such as field-based activities, greenhouse work, or care and handling of livestock. This can include driving, operating and maintaining farm equipment, collection and entering of data, and a wide variety of other related tasks.

The Lethbridge Research and Development Centre (RDC) is a part of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The Lethbridge RDC is an active employer for a wide variety of agriculture-related positions on a year-round basis.
We are seeking people who are interested in these types of jobs, to create an inventory of candidates for current and future vacancies. The fields of work related to this advertisement include positions in the areas of crop science, soil science, agronomy, greenhouse and livestock.
This inventory may be used for casual, seasonal, temporary and permanent employment as Agriculture General Labourer at the GL-MAN-03, GL-MAN-05 and GL-MAN-06 levels in Lethbridge, Alberta.

You will find below a variety of the types of experience that may be applicable depending on the positions that need to be filled. Additional qualifications and assessments may be required by the hiring manager(s).

Positions in All Areas:
► Experience with repair, maintenance and operation of agricultural machinery.
Positions in Crops, Soils, Agronomy:
► Experience in grain crop operations.
Positions in Greenhouse:
► Experience in plant management and general greenhouse practices including pest management, disease control, plant maintenance and propagation.
Positions in Livestock:
► Experience with the care and handling of livestock (cattle/sheep experience preferred).

The following are possible conditions of employment that may apply depending on the position to be staffed:
► Valid driver’s license.
► Ability and willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
► Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work activities including moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 22 kg).
► Ability and willingness to potentially work extended periods outdoors under various environmental conditions (dust, hot, cold, noise, insects).
► Ability and willingness to obtain any further training or certificates that may be required for specific duties.
► Under normal safety precautions, ability and willingness to work with hazardous materials.
► Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
