⚓ We are seeking a Ship’s Officer-Marine Engineer who would enjoy a challenging work experience in a dynamic environment. You will work as part of a diverse team on a variety of vessels to facilitate collective objectives in support of the National Defence Team.
⚓ You will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities such as:
⚓ assisting with the maintenance and repair of the main propulsion, auxiliary and ancillary systems;
⚓ participating in watch-keeping duty and emergency response drills;
⚓ using your technical experience to support co-workers in the engine room;
⚓ briefing management on machinery status;
⚓ updating maintenance records; and
⚓ reviewing specifications for refits, or overseeing contractor work on any one of the Canadian Forces Auxiliary Fleet’s 10 vessels.

The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. Recent* related** marine engineering experience
* Recent is define as within the last three (3) years.
** Related experience may be obtained through a minimum of one (1) year of sea service working on a vessel or floating industrial barge OR one (1) year service in a shore-based marine operations, maintenance, repair, training or related facility.

Information on language requirements
Depending on the position to be filled, candidates must possess:
• Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Marine Engineer, Fourth Class Motor or higher;
or
• Valid Province of British Columbia Fourth Class Power Engineer Certificate or higher.
Note: Applicants who hold a British Columbia Power Engineer Certificate must also hold, and provide copies of Marine Emergency Duties (MED) Certificates A1, B1 and B2 or a Standard for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Basic Safety certificate.

• Experience working with vessel Planned Maintenance Systems;
• Experience performing inspections and trials on vessels and marine machinery;
• Experience working with a budget under the Federal Financial Administration Act;
• Knowledge of repair, maintenance and operation of steam and diesel marine machinery and systems;
• Knowledge of computer-based Planned Maintenance Systems;
• Knowledge of Treasury Board financial policies and procedures;
• Knowledge of DND Human Resource policies and procedures.

⚓ SO-FLP-06 - $42.40 to $47.00 per hour
⚓ GT-04 - $62,556 to $71,124 per year
⚓ GT-05 - $70,213 to $79,832 per year
