Duties

- Take all measures necessary to manage, operate and maintain a plant in a safe condition and shall notify the owner or user of the measures taken
- Maintain discipline among the persons employed in the plant who are under his or her control or supervision
- Direct, supervise and train shift engineers, shift operators and operating assistants, as the case may be, in their work duties and responsibilities for the safe operation and maintenance of the plant
- Alone authorize, approve and be responsible for all maintenance, repairs or work performed within the plant or in connection with associated equipment
- Ensure that an accurate record of matters that may affect the safe management, operation and maintenance of the plant is made and maintained at all times

Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff one (1) permanent position in PETAWAWA, Ontario.

This staffing process may also be used to staff future vacancies, with varying tenures in various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Experience:
EX1 A minimum of three (3) years’ experience with the maintenance and operation of high pressure boilers and related equipment in a Central Heating (steam plant) environment
EX2 Experience with a Co-Generation plant
EX3 Experience with the control for steam, water and condensate systems
EX4 Experience with safety practices and procedures related to working within a heating plant
EX5 Experience supervising

Occupational Certification:
OC1- Possession of a valid First Class Operating Engineer Standardized Certificate issued by the Province of Ontario

Note: Candidates who do not currently possess a valid First Class Operating Engineer Standardized Certificate issued by the Province of Ontario will be required to obtain this certificate prior to appointment. AQ1 - Possession of certification in First Aid

Experience:
AQ5 - Experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Possession of a valid unrestricted class “G” driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario or provincial/territorial equivalent
• Eligibility and willingness to obtain the DND 404 military driver’s license
• A current and acceptable driver’s abstract
• Must be willing to work Shift Work (12 hours)
• Must be willing to work overtime
• Must be willing to work in confined spaces, climb stairs; work from ladders, scaffolding and elevated platforms.
• Must maintain valid First Class Operating Engineer Standardized Certificate issued by the Province of Ontario
