Work environment

Technical service and advice in the planning, development, configuration, installation, implementation and maintenance of IT infrastructure for digital communications. The primary focus of this work is to service the following - the TCP/IP Network of the OCC, the use of software and programs to service IT equipment and user gear, the development and maintenance of virtual servers that operate the digital network, the programming of encryption gear, and the development of programming software for remote monitoring equipment

Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory staffing process designed to create a pool of qualified candidates for appointments on an indeterminate and term basis.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment prior to May 21, 2020 (deeming date), the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Furthermore, CM staffing transactions resulting from this process will be administered in accordance with the Onboarding Transition Phase until deeming day.

ED1: Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.*

Notes:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.
2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.
3. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

*Proof of education in the form of official transcripts will be required.

Degree equivalency

EX1: Recent** experience repairing, modifying and maintaining data communications equipment.
EX2: Recent** experience operating test equipment and with test procedures in both analog and digital systems.
EX3: Recent** experience diagnosing problems/trouble shooting technical equipment problems in shop and field environments.

AQE1: Recent** experience programming digital radio equipment.
AQE2: Recent** experience diagnosing problems/trouble shooting digital radio equipment problems in shop and field environments.

OR1: Willing and able to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
OR2: Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
OR3: Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation (including owned or leased government transport, Helicopter, commercial and light aircraft and up to and including remote locations).
