Duties

Natural Resources Canada's Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation (CCMEO) is currently looking for a talented and dynamic individual to fill a position in its Water Program team.

Natural Resources Canada leads administers programs to advance Canada’s ability to effectively mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from, flood-related events foremost by building a body of knowledge on flood risks in Canada, and invest in foundational flood mitigation activities (e.g., risk assessments and flood mapping). Specialized expertise in the area of flood modelling, hydrology and hydraulics is required. Natural Resources Canada, Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation provides expertise and scientific and technical support to the Government of Canada in the area of flood mapping. This position will provide specific engineering expertise to lead research projects related to water resources engineering. Specialized expertise will be required to engage stakeholders, and interpret data for the purposes of decision making with respect to the review and evaluation of flood mapping products and proposals, which incorporate flood modelling. In addition, the position will be required to work with various stakeholders and/or partners to acquire, manage, integrate, analyze, interpret flood models, share and disseminate data for the purposes of providing information to Canadians about their flood risk.

Education:

ED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

EX1 - Recent and significant* experience in a water resources engineering position performing studies and project management.

EX2 - Experience in analyzing and presenting scientific or engineering data related to flood frequency analysis, river hydraulics and flood modelling.

EX3 - Experience in preparing technical reports and presentations.

EX4 - Experience in providing advice and recommendations to scientific/technical professionals and management.

*Recent and significant experience refers to experience generally acquired over 5 years over the past 7 years. Experience can be cumulated.

Asset - Education:

AED1: Graduate studies relevant to the position (Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, with specialization in water resources, hydrology, or hydraulics).

Degree equivalency

Asset - Experience:

AE1 - Experience in the development, adaptation and application of water management models as well as hydrologic and hydraulics models.

AE2 - Experience evaluating technical proposals.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge:

K1 - Knowledge of the theory and engineering principles in the areas of water resources management, hydrology, statistical applications in hydrology including flood frequency analysis, river hydraulics and modeling of water resources systems.

K2 - Knowledge of project management techniques (initiation, planning, monitoring, assessing and reporting).

K3 - Knowledge of issues and stakeholders involved in flood disaster mitigation.

Abilities:
