Duties

Transport Canada develops and enforces security regulations, and works with national and international partners to prevent and manage security risks in all transportation modes. In the region, inspectors’ work can include:
- contributing to the development of security regulations for aviation, rail and marine security;
- conducting oversight (inspections) of security regulations for aviation, rail and marine security (this is the majority of the work performed);
- assessing security plans; and
- taking action and working with partners in the event of threats.

Graduation with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution OR acceptable combination of secondary school diploma and/or training and relevant experience.

EX1: Recent and significant* experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with internal or external agencies or clients.
EX2: Recent and significant* experience in comprehending and applying legislation or policies.
EX3: Recent and significant* experience in providing advice or recommendations to clients or management.

*Recent and significant experience is defined as a minimum of 3 years in the last 5 years.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

Required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Required to pass pre-employment Category III medical for Transportation Security Inspectors and pass a periodic Category II medical every 5 years.

Some position require performance of stand-by duties on a 24/7 basis.

Required to travel on short notice for extended periods regionally, domestically and internationally using various modes or transportation.

Required to work overtime and/or irregular hours as assigned including on short notice.
