Reporting to the Operations Supervisor under general supervision, the Senior Grounds and Maintenance Worker responsibilities include preforming all or a comprehensive range of the following activities:
- Identifying and monitoring horticultural pest populations.
- Applying pesticides to a wide range of horticultural crops using a variety of application equipment.
- Makes treatment decisions based on treatment thresholds, control options and research priorities.
- Evaluates effectiveness of pest control activities.
- Maintains records and inventories, prepares purchase requisitions orders for materials and provides reports to the supervisor on work progress, costs incurred and time expenditures.
- Programming and growth chambers and incubators.
- Irrigation of plant material based on research goals.

EDUCATION
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, experience and/or training.
EXPERIENCE
Experience working in an agricultural research setting.
Experience in integrated pest management (IPM) techniques including application of pesticides for greenhouse insect and disease control.
Experience using email and spreadsheet software.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of modern horticultural practices and plant maintenance in controlled environments.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Valid Pesticide Applicator’s Permit
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of plant/pests and diseases and abnormalities.
Reliability Status security clearance
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to work overtime.
Ability to work weekends as needed.
