Work environment

The Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Intent of the process

This process will initially be used to staff one full-time position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis, and create a pool of qualified candidates. The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (i.e. permanent or temporary) within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Strathmore, Alberta.

Please note this process will only be used to staff positions in Strathmore, Alberta. Applicants are encouraged to apply only if they are willing and able to work in or relocate to Strathmore, Alberta.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Ex1 - Experience in the provision of administrative support services including three of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, or processing mail.
Ex2 - Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.
Ex3 - Experience in using computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, databases.

A1 – Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

AEx1 - Experience transcribing statements from audio cassettes or digital media
AEx2 - Experience working in a law enforcement and/or legal environment.
AEx3 - Training and/or experience in providing financial support services such as the collection and recording of monies received, handling petty cash funds, verifying supplier invoices, preparing invoices.
AEx4 - Experience in maintaining a law enforcement database such as: Police Reporting Occurrence System (PROS) or Canadian Police Information (CPIC).

OR1: Willing and able to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
OR2: Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation
OR3:Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
OR4:Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license or personal mobility normally associated with a valid driver’s license.
