As a Vehicle or Heavy Duty Equipment mechanic at one of the Canadian Armed Forces Bases in Ontario, you will conduct first, second and limited third line maintenance, safety inspections, and various service requirements on a wide variety of vehicles, including light and heavy commercial vehicles, along with military vehicles and other specialty equipment.

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate vacancy in Trenton, Ontario. Please note that the first pull of applications will be done on January 30th, 2020 with all other subsequent pulls being made on an as needed basis.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on an indeterminate or term basis, including casual employment and with various security requirements. This inventory may be used to staff similar positions within the Department of National Defence.

- Experience in the inspection and repair of vehicle components (e.g. drive train, suspension systems, etc.).

Information on language requirements
Depending on the position to be staffed, one or more of the following will be required:
- Possession of a valid 310T Truck and Coach Technician license OR Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificates equivalent to the 310T Truck and Coach Technician license.
- Possession of a valid 310S Automotive Service Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario OR Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificates equivalent to the 310S Automotive Service Technician license.
- Possession of a valid 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario OR Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificates equivalent to the 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician license.
- Possession of a valid and unrestricted driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario for Class “A” vehicles with airbrake endorsement (Z) or other provincial or territorial equivalent.
- Possession of a valid and unrestricted driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario for Class “G” vehicles or other provincial or territorial equivalent.

- Possession of a valid 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario OR Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificates equivalent to the 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician license.
- Possession of a valid and unrestricted driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario for Class “A” vehicles with airbrake endorsement (Z) or other provincial or territorial equivalent.
- Experience in the inspection and repair of a variety of Heavy Duty Equipment.
- Experience using an SAP based program.
- Experience mentoring technicians during on-the-job training.
- Experience using computer systems and computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Recent* experience as a mechanic in a licensed garage or dealership, or DND Vehicle Maintenance Workshop.
*Recent is defined as within the last five years.
- Experience in the inspection and repair of firefighting equipment.
- Experience in the inspection and repair of runway equipment.
- Experience in the inspection and repair of refuelling equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Operational Requirements:
- May be required to work overtime.
- May be required to work standby recovery duties on a rotating basis.
The conditions of employment must be met at the time of appointment and maintained throughout the employment.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain Departmental Driver’s Licence (DND 404).
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment.
- Various security requirements including Reliability Status and Level II Secret.
- Ability to safely perform a variety of physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 35lbs.

- Must maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario for Class “A” vehicles with airbrake endorsement (Z) or other provincial or territorial equivalent.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain current membership at the Ontario College of Trades as a fully licenced 310T Truck and Coach Technician.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain current membership at the Ontario College of Trades as a fully licenced as 310S Automotive Service Technician.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain current membership at the Ontario College of Trades as a fully licenced as 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.
- Must maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license issued by the Province for Class “G” vehicles or other provincial or territorial equivalent.
