The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position. A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar positions within various units and locations with the Department of National Defence.

Your résumé.
Education:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training or relevant experience
Occupational Certification:
Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Master 500 Gross Tonnage, Near Coastal or higher OR
Possession of DND Minor Warship Command Qualification or higher OR
Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Third Class Engineer or higher OR
Possession of a degree in a field related to the marine industry corresponding with regulations and procedures governing marine operations.
Experience:
Recent experience as a Senior Ship’s Officer. Recent can be defined as within the last 5 years.
Experience using common word processing, spreadsheet and email software such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Experience in ONE of the following areas:
Experience in the management of marine assets including operations, scheduling, safety and supervision of work parties.
OR
Experience in the management of government and/or commercial marine fleet operations.
OR
Experience as a Minor Warship Commanding Officer or equivalency.
ASSET QUALIFICATION
Experience:
Experience in staffing or classification of civilian positions
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
Knowledge of safety acts, regulations and procedures
Knowledge of the operations of the Canadian Forces Auxiliary Fleet and QHM Operations in Halifax
Knowledge of the crewing and safe manning requirements for tugs

Conditions of Employment:
Possession of a valid Provincial Drivers’ License
Must meet and maintain Health Canada medical suitability requirements for sea going personnel in accordance with the Treasury Board Occupational Health Evaluation Standard.
Willingness and ability to work overtime and on weekends, as required
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Willingness and ability to travel, as required
