The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is looking for social workers to work in institutions and parole offices across Quebec as part of its expanding health care team.

Intent of the process

A pool of candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions of permanent or temporary tenures within the Correctional Service of Canada in the Quebec region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION :

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social work.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE :

Experience in providing Social Work services to clients in mental health settings and/or correctional settings.
Experience working independently with minimal clinical supervision.
Experience working as part of an inter-disciplinary team(s).

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EDUCATION :

Graduation with a Master’s degree in Social Work from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social work.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE :

Experience in the provision of Social Work services to culturally diverse populations.
Experience providing Social Work services in community mental health, medical, acute or forensic settings.
Experience providing crisis intervention services.
Experience establishing, developing and managing productive and cooperative partnerships with community-based services (i.e., community capacity building).
Experience providing Social Work services to vulnerable populations (e.g., cognitively impaired/brain-injured, geriatric, adults who are disadvantaged or in conflict with the law, aboriginal people, etc).

KNOWLEDGE :

Knowledge of theories and established best practices of professional Social Work.
Knowledge of types of mental disorders and effective interventions for adults with mental disorders.
Knowledge of Social Work Code of Ethics and Standards of Social Work Practice published by the Canadian Association of Social Workers and/or applicable provincial regulatory bodies.
Knowledge of relevant mental health legislation with respect to the practice of social work.
Knowledge of resources and community agencies which provide assistance to adults with mental disorders.

ABILITIES :

Ability to complete comprehensive social work assessments for adults with mental disorders (e.g., bio-psycho-social-cultural assessments, mental status examinations, progress reports or discharge plans).
Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
Ability to partner to ensure effective service delivery to clients.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
