Duties

As the National Chief Psychologist, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that takes pride in supporting RCMP divisional occupational health teams across Canada to ensure the development and application of policies and provision of program guidance.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa, is seeking a dedicated National Chief Psychologist to provide guidance for the provision of professional psychological/mental health policies, programs and services impacting RCMP members across the country to insure member fitness for duty and the prevention of illness/injury.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC and a Top Secret security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in personnel psychology, psychometrics, industrial psychology, clinical psychology or some other specialty relevant to the position.

Note:
1. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

and;

CERTIFICATION
Registered Psychologist in good standing in a province or territory of Canada.

EXPERIENCE
- **Significant and recent experience in developing policies, planning, delivering and evaluating psychological programs/mental health services in occupational health, in one of the following sectors: public health; law enforcement; or military context (which may include Veterans).

-**Significant and recent experience in overseeing or delivering an occupational psychology health assessment program offered to employees working in high risk sectors.

-*Significant experience in preparing and presenting reports and recommendations to stakeholders and management.

Note:
*Significant is defined as 5 years’ experience.
**Significant and recent is defined as 5 years’ experience within the last 10 years.
Management is defined as Director and above.

KNOWLEDGE
-Knowledge of the ethical principles with providing psychological/mental health care services.
-Knowledge of psychometric material used to assess psychological fitness for duty.
-Knowledge of innovative/best practices and research to evolve/modernize psychological practices.

ABILITIES
-Ability to communicate effectively orally.
-Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

-Graduation with a PhD degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in clinical adult psychology, forensic or psychological services.

-Experience in working with specialized units within police or military organizations.
-Experience in clinical practice of adult psychology within health care provider organizations (i.e. hospital, medical clinic, psychiatric treatment centres, OSI clinics etc...).
