Diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying parts, for a wide range of light and heavy vehicles, farm equipment, and special purpose vehicles at an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research facility.
As one of a number of agricultural research sites located in Canada, this Senior Mechanic position is located at the Scott Research Farm site in Saskatchewan. The Scott site is responsible for agronomic research, variety testing, pesticide evaluations and Minor Use Registration of Pesticides.
The intent of the process is to staff the described position on a permanent full-time basis.
In addition, a pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to staff similar positions with various tenures.

EDUCATION
An acceptable combination of education, experience and/or training in automotive and/or farm mechanics.

EXPERIENCE
Experience in the operation and maintenance of agricultural/farm related equipment.
Experience in servicing, maintaining, repairing and overhauling gas/diesel vehicles and equipment.
Experience in electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanics of equipment.
Experience in troubleshooting units, analyze faults, recommend and implement corrective measures.
Experience utilizing detailed drawings and trades manuals.
Experience of computer skills and programs for record keeping, surfing the net for repair parts, repair procedures, e-mail etc.
Experience in welding and metal fabrication.
Experience in metal machining (ie. Turning a shaft down on the metal lathe).
Experience in the repair of air conditioning systems used in agricultural equipment.
EXPERIENCE
Experience using metal fabrication equipment (e.g. folder, metal lathe, metal slicer).
English essential

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of preventive maintenance and repair of small motors, vehicles, farm machinery and equipment.
Knowledge of automotive diagnosis and computerized diagnostic equipment.
Knowledge in the adjustment and calibration of various farm machinery.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Journeymen Certificate in Farm Machinery or Heavy Duty mechanics.
Certification in farm mechanics.
