The Director, Communications is accountable for the vision, frameworks, policies, planning, delivery and evaluation of strategic corporate communications advice, services and programs.
The Director oversees the delivery of a full range of departmental communications services, including: media relations, strategic outreach, stakeholder engagement, social media, translation, editing and publishing, management of the departmental web site, and production of the annual report to Parliament. More specifically, the Director is responsible for the development and implementation of communication strategies and products for the public release of all TSB investigation reports, as well as for other major safety communications such as the TSB Watchlist. The Director also plays a key role in the strategic and business planning of the TSB as a member of its executive management team.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the PSEA. This being said the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB has a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.
The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

EDUCATION
Degree from a recognized university.
EXPERIENCE
Recent* and significant** experience in providing strategic advice and services to senior management on a broad range of communications issues and activities.
Recent* and significant** experience in leading and directing the development and delivery of effective corporate communication strategies and plans.
Experience in building partnerships and/or collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in managing human and financial resources.
Recent* and significant** experience leading teams and leading change.
* “Recent experience” is understood to mean in the last seven (7) years.
** “Significant experience” is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired through the execution of a large number of complex and relevant activities over a minimum period of 24 months.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent of this position is required to travel in Canada and abroad.
The incumbent of this position must respond to emergency situations without advanced notice and be able to work irregular hours.

The TSB was created as an independent agency due to the importance of impartiality in the conduct of investigations. It is fundamental to the achievement of the TSB’s mandate for employees to be free from real, apparent or potential conflicts of interest in the conduct of day to day operations.
