Work environment

Work is performed in a police environment where there are inherent stresses and distractions and exposure to unsettling reports when transcribing recorded incidents or complaints.

There are constant interruptions in order to respond to requests for service or information. Occasionally there are disagreeable interactions with external clients such as witnesses, victims, accused and suspects, and complainants, who are at times confused, fearful, hostile, or in shock about a situation or circumstance (missing child, assault, emergency situations).

This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff a permanent part time position in Lytton and in Clearwater as well as a temporary full-time position in Ashcroft and in Clinton. A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies (including similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis, on a casual basis, at full or part time hours) throughout the area of selection.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Successful completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience

Degree equivalency

Experience in providing administrative support, including assistance to the general public and clients, both over the phone and in person.

Experience in the use of office computer programs (spreadsheets and word processing).

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in using various RCMP automated systems, such as PRIME, CPIC, and JUSTIN.

Experience transcribing in English from digital audio device

Any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements, and organizational needs may be used for the screening of applications. Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

Practical and/or standardized tests may be administered for screening and/or assessment purposes.

Random selection may be used to identify which applicants will be assessed or appointed in this appointment process.
