The Policy Officer Recruitment Programme (PORP) is a three-year developmental programme designed to recruit and develop talented individuals to meet the unique demands of the defence policy environment and become well-rounded public servants. Training is carried out through in-house learning opportunities, mentoring, and participation in special projects as well as classroom and online courses.

The intent of the process is to staff (5) positions in the PORP on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of Bilingual non-imperative BBB/BBB.
A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions with various tenures in the Department of National Defence, with various linguistic profiles and security profiles.

Education
ED1: Graduation with a Master's degree in history, political science, international affairs, public administration, law, sociology, economics or other security and defence-related disciplines from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Candidates currently completing a Master's degree will be considered. They must demonstrate they are able to complete all the requirements of their current studies program to obtain their Master's degree by 30 June 2020.
Candidates must have an acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
Note: Candidates must demonstrate their specialization in economics, sociology or statistics by:
- Indicating that they have taken at least one post-secondary course in one of these subject areas; or
- Describing a combination of education, training and/or experience in one of these subject areas.
Experience
EX1: Experience researching, analysing, and writing on subjects related to security and defence; or international affairs; or public policy.
