When answering the screening questions, remember that the assessment board cannot make assumptions about your Education and Experience. It is not sufficient to say that you have the required qualifications or to list your current or past responsibilities. Rather, you must provide concrete examples with significant details to explain WHEN, WHERE and HOW you acquired each qualification. This is similar to what would be expected of you when asked to provide a concrete example of a particular situation in the context of an interview.

Work environment

The Manager, Detection Technology Field Support is responsible for the life cycle management of approximately $100M of technology that is deployed at the border to help interdict contraband materials and national security threats. The equipment varies from small tools used to search for contraband hidden in cars to large-scale imaging devices that can x-ray entire commercial trucks. Current priorities include the interdiction of firearms linked to criminal activities and combatting the opioids crisis.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this selection process and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, various linguistic profiles as well as various security clearances within the Canada Border Services Agency.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma and the completion of an acceptable training program in electronics technology or an *acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two (2) to three (3) years of post-secondary study in this subject.

*an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience is defined as a high-school diploma, plus 10 years of work experience with electronic equipment .

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

- Recent and significant* experience in the management of human, financial and material resources.
- Recent and significant* experience managing electronic equipment and life cycle activities.
- Experience developing and delivering technical training programs for the use of specialized equipment.
- Experience developing standard operating procedures for technical equipment, such as: X-ray inspection systems, radiation detection systems, vehicles, etc.
- Experience developing technical specifications and procurement of large-scale equipment.

*Recent and significant experience is defined as the responsibility for planning, reporting and executing the full range of functions associated with managing human and financial resources, and electronic assets. This level of experience is usually associated with responsibility over a full fiscal cycle. The experience is defined as the experience normally acquired within the last two (2) years.
