In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

Degree equivalency

• Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Master, Near Coastal or higher
OR
• Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate, Near Coastal and an acceptable combination of education and experience in marine management and/or marine operations

• **Significant experience as ship’s Master

OR

• **Significant experience in marine operations and fleet management, such as personnel leadership, administration and supervision of ships’ officers and crews

**Significant is defined as approximately 2 years

• Certification in Marine Advanced First Aid
• Certification in WHMIS for Supervisors
• Expenditure Management Certification for Section 32 & 34 of the Financial Administration Act

• Experience in Government of Canada marine management and operations as Master of a vessel engaged in Near Coastal voyages
• Experience in ship berthing and/or towing
• Experience in provision of marine and/or technical support services to a varied client base
• Experience in financial resource management in accordance with Government of Canada policies
• Experience in human resources management in accordance with Government of Canada policies

• Must be willing and able to travel as required

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Maintain a valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency
• Maintain a valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate
• Meet and maintain the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines
• Fitness to wear a respirator
