The results of this process will initially be used to staff positions in Calgary (AB) and Saskatoon (SK) indeterminately. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions on an indeterminate, term, assignment, secondment or acting basis within Edmonton (AB) and/or Transport Canada.
A partially assessed pool may be established. (Top-down selection or any volume management mechanism may be used during any stage of the selection process. Please note that achieving a pass mark on any of the assessment used does not mean you will move forward in the selection process. Management may decide to use a cut-off mark that is higher than the pass mark on any evaluation used throughout the process.)

Recent and significant* experience in conducting one or more of the following:
-inspections
-investigations
-audits
Recent and significant* experience working in the dangerous goods industry or in a regulatory environment.
Experience using MS office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
* “Recent and significant experience” is understood to mean approximately three cumulative years of work experience in the past five years.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with a specialization in chemistry, engineering or related scientific field.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization in Criminology.
Associates Degree or Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institute or learning institute in engineering technology or physical sciences.
Recent and significant experience* in the aviation industry with direct or supervisory experience in the handling of dangerous goods as air cargo.
Recent and significant experience* attending accident or emergency sites involving dangerous goods to ensure public safety.
Recent and significant experience* in risk management activities including writing detailed reports of outcomes.
Significant experience** in conducting investigations, obtaining and executing search warrants and preparing court briefs of evidence as a peace officer.
Significant experience** working in the rail industry with direct or supervisory experience with the maintenance of rail equipment.
Experience in planning and delivering education and awareness sessions.
Experience in the inspection and requalification of Means of Containment.
Experience in environmental remediation.
A minimum of five years’ experience in the construction, design and/or inspection of bulk containers for flammable liquids, and/or cylinders for compressed gases.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally: All written and verbal communication obtained throughout the selection process, from the time of application to close of process, will be used to evaluate the candidates. For instance, e-mails, phone calls, phone messages, screening questions, résumés and/or interview (but not limited to). If a candidate does not respond to certain communications, their application may be interpreted as automatically withdrawn from the process.
ASSESSMENT - GENERAL INFORMATION
Random selection, invoking asset qualifications may be used in conjunction with other volume management strategies that can be applied at any stage in the staffing process.
Candidates may be assessed using various methods, such as, but not limited to: submission of a video for screening purposes, written exam, phone, individual and/or group interview(s), simulation exercise and/or reference checks. Candidates may be required to make an oral presentation.
ASSESSMENT – AVAILABILITY
The assessment may be administered outside of regular working hours including evenings and weekends. If you are unavailable, you must inform us immediately as each request will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation will be required.
ASSESSMENT – RESCHEDULING
Rescheduling will only be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation will be required at the time of your request to be rescheduled.
Possible reasons for alternate assessment dates:
· Medical reason with doctor's certificate;
· Death in the immediate family;
· Professional obligation (proof required);
· Confirmation of pre-approved travel plans; or
· Religious reasons.

Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to evaluation purposes.
ASSESSMENT – REFERENCE CHECKS
Those selected for assessment should be prepared to provide the names and contact information of recent references (recent is defined as within the last 2 years):
References must be available, have an in-depth knowledge of your work/projects, and must be able to answer specific questions pertaining to your experience, achievements and strengths.
References that are not reachable and/or not available are lowering the candidates’ chances to be found fully qualified and be considered for appointment. When providing names of references, it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure they are available to respond in a timely manner.
