Duties

Powerline Technician:
- Installs, inspects, repairs and modifies high voltage overhead and underground electrical systems
- Constructs, maintains high voltage transformers, switchgear, transmission lines and associated equipment
- Constructs and maintains secondary voltage overhead and underground systems, street and area lighting
- Responds to power disruptions, outages and emergency situations
- Test electrical equipment and circuits
- Performs electrical switching on high and low voltage systems

Linecrew Supervisor:
- Plans, organizes and supervises the activities of the team
- Provides expert technical advice
- Performs periodic site inspections at various locations on the Base
- Prepares and provides estimates and quotes
- Coordinates work with contractors and other trade shops

Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff two (2) permanent positions in BORDEN, Ontario:
- One (1) Linecrew Supervisor
- One (1) Powerline Technician

This staffing process may also be used to staff future vacancies, with varying tenures in Borden and/or Petawawa, Ontario.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Occupational Certification:
OC1 Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Powerline Technician Certificate (434A) or provincial or territorial equivalent.
OC2 Possession of a valid Utility Work Protection Code Certification.
OC3 Possession of a valid Pole Top and Aerial Device Rescue Certification.

Experience ( for all positions):
EX 1 – **Significant experience in the installation and maintenance of overhead and underground Electrical Distribution lines, transformers and sub stations.
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience associated with the performance of those duties for a minimum of two (2) years

EX 2 – *Recent and **significant experience in supervising Electrical Power Distribution crew.
*Recent is defined as experience acquired within the past five (5) years
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience associated with the performance of those duties for a minimum of two (2) years

Abilities:
AS 1 – Ability to effectively communicate orally.
AS 2 – Ability to effectively communicate in writing.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Possession of a valid unrestricted Province of Ontario Class “DZ” driver’s license or provincial or territorial equivalent
• A current and acceptable driver’s abstract.
• Eligibility and willingness to obtain the DND 404 military driver’s licence.
• Must be willing to wear and/or utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety regulations.
• Must be willing to work at heights.
• Must be willing to work in hot and cold environments.
• Must be willing to be placed on standby.
• Must be willing and able to work overtime
• Must be willing and able to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours

Salary:
Powerline Technician (GL EIM 10): $31.48 - $34.20 per hour
Linecrew Supervisor (GL EIM 11 C2): $32.61 - $35.46 per hour (plus supervisory differential- 11% of basic rate)

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
