You may also be entitled to a northern isolated post allowance, depending on the location from which you work. For example, an employee with dependents working from Iqaluit, NU could earn up to an additional $33,686 annually plus vacation travel assistance of up to $5,180 per year for the employee, and an additional $4,676 per year for each eligible dependent.

Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience as a project team member involving multiple contributors
Experience engaging or consulting with clients or stakeholders
Experience writing reports that require analysis, such as but not limited to operational documents and external correspondence
Experience in supervising staff
Experience in managing a budget in an employment setting

The following knowledge may be considered an asset for the positions to be staffed:
Knowledge of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) structure and overall mandate
Knowledge of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) mandate as it relates to maritime Search and Rescue
Search and Rescue (SAR) – Senior Search and Rescue Officer
Under the direction of the CCG Deputy Superintendent, Arctic Programs, this position provides support to the delivery of the Canadian Coast Guard’s federal SAR mandate. This includes SAR operations, training and exercise activities in the field, maintaining equipment, vessels and vehicles and carrying out administrative duties at the headquarters area including human resource and financial management.
In addition the SAR Program Specialist provides supervision for SAR personnel delivering such program streams as co-ordination and delivery of the Inshore Rescue Boat Program, the Rescue Specialist Program, Rigid Hull Inflatable Operations Training Program and SAR Exercise and Training, Coast Guard Auxiliary liaison, First Nations Engagement activities and Analysis of Search and Rescue Delivery. This position may carry out these duties remotely, or from a Canadian Coast Guard office.
The intent of this process is to staff various Search and Rescue positions within Canadian Coast Guard Arctic Region.
A pool of qualified candidates may be created and could be used to staff these or similar positions with various tenures within the Canadian Coast Guard.

The following are requirements that you will need to meet prior to being offered a position:
Reliability Status security clearance
Secret security clearance
Willing and able to obtain medical certificate
Valid Class 5 Driver's license
Willing and able to travel on various means of transport including ships, small vessels and aircraft to remote locations and abroad, knowing that such travel may be frequent and seasonal
Willing and able to work overtime, be on call according to a schedule (day and night, seven days a week) and occasionally work weekends, in accordance with the pertinent collective agreement
Willing and able to work in potentially hazardous and /or adverse conditions such as those found in the marine environment and in remote locations
Willing and able to work in emergency situations
Willing and able to travel for extended periods on short notice
Valid passport
Willing and able to wear the Canadian Coast Guard uniform
Willing and able to wear CSA approved personal safety equipment related to the job
The candidate must be able to obtain the following certificates within 6 months of being appointed:
o Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) Certificate
o Radio Operator’s Certificate – Maritime
o Marine Emergency Duties A3 Certificate
