The Bench Rigger has the responsibility of Maintaining and manufacturing all rope and wire rope installations aboard CAF ships
• Manufacturing and testing of wire and rope lifting slings for cranes
• Inspection, maintenance and installation of crane wires
• Measuring, Manufacturing and installation of safety flight deck nets, rope ladders and Shock mats
• Measuring, Manufacturing and installation of guard rail wires, Tug boat Mustache fenders and Dive lines
• Testing and certifying of ship board appliances using a hydraulic test bed
• Inspection and installation of fall arrest hard points
• Inspection and certification of fall arrest harnesses and lanyards.
• Designing and creating handmade bell ropes

The Department of National Defence (DND) is looking for qualified candidates to fill current and future (Bench) Rigger vacancies in Victoria/Esquimalt, BC.

• Experience working with various Wire Rope and/or various other types of rope, such as three strand and double Braid, Manila, poly, Nylon, in an industrial environment

• Knowledge of rigging hardware such as Turnbuckles, Block and Tackles, Wire clips, Shackles, Pear rings, Snatch blocks, thimbles, Etc.

• Ability to tie Basic Knots
• Ability to identify and/or use tools of the trade such as Fids, Spud wrenches, Marlin spikes, Etc.
• Ability to read, comprehend and create based off detailed drawings
• Ability to work with various wire rope and other types of rope such as Three strand and double Braid, Synthetic, Manila, poly, Nylon
• Completion of trade related apprenticeship
• Experience Rigging
• Experience in Bench Rigger Trade
• Experience testing shipboard and shore based lifting appliances.
• Experience splicing Wire rope and/or various other types of rope (Three strand and double Braid, Synthetic, Manila, poly, Nylon,)
• Experience with Pattern lay out
• Experience with Hydraulic Test Bed operations and/or Hydraulic Swedging Press operations
• Required to work shifts and overtime.
Reliability Status security clearance - • Various Reliability Status or Secret Clearance.
• Required to work shifts and overtime.
• Required to lift heavy objects including overhead lifting to facilitate the installation of lifting apparatus (approximately 75lbs/ 35kgs).
• Required to work in confined spaces.
• Required to climb vertical ladders and work at heights (approximately 200ft).
• Requirement to wear all appropriate PPE.
