Intent of the process

Anticipatory Staffing - A qualified pool of candidates may be established to staff similar positions at the EG-06 group and level for term, indeterminate or acting at full or part-time hours or lower level positions.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member. Notification regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Certification as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector. Acceptable certifications include, but are not limited to:

1. Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety
Professionals or;
2. Registered Occupational Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists or;
3. Industrial Hygienist or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist by the American Board of Hygiene or jointly with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or;
4. Certified Health and Safety Consultant by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering or;
5. Public Health Inspector (Canada) by the Canadian Institute of public Health Inspectors Board of Certification

EXPERIENCE
E1. Experience* coordinating an occupational health and safety program (such as risk prevention program, job hazard analyses, and workplace accident management program), policies, procedures, projects or directives.

E2. Experience* providing advice and guidance regarding the interpretation and application of federal or provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation including Acts, Codes, Regulations, Standards and industry codes of practice.

E3. Experience* in conducting investigations AND inspections.

E4. Experience* providing Training.

*Experience refers to the breadth and depth as well as complexity of tasks that could be expected to have been obtained by carrying out the functions for a period of approximately three (3) years.

Note: Experience as a member of an occupational health and safety committee alone is insufficient.

AED1. Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in occupational health, industrial hygiene, health physics, safety management, loss control management, safety engineering or any other field relevant to the work to be performed.

NOTE: Depending on the position being staffed, any of the qualifications above may be deemed as an essential "must have" or asset "nice to have". This doesn't mean that you must possess all qualifications, but these criteria may be a deciding factor in choosing the persons to be appointed. Therefore, it is important that you answer each of the questions. Other qualifications may apply, depending on the position being staffed.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid driver’s license
Willingness and ability to travel for work and training purposes via the following modes of transport:
• Government owned or leased automobile
• Commercial aircraft, boat/ship, train
• Government aircraft (including helicopters), small boats and larger ships

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.

Willingness and ability to occasionally work irregular hours, overtime, sometimes on short notice.
Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
Willingness and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.

TRAVEL RELATED TO THE SELECTION OR APPOINTMENT PROCESS. A pass mark will be established for each essential qualification. Candidates must meet each essential qualification to be appointed to the position. A candidate may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, organizational requirements, or operational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be used as a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.
