As a Vehicle or Heavy Duty Equipment mechanic at one of the Canadian Army Bases in Alberta, you will conduct first, second and third line maintenance, safety inspections, and various service requirements on a wide variety of vehicles, including light and heavy commercial vehicles, along with military vehicles and other specialty equipment.

The intention of this inventory is to fill current and future vacancies at the GL-VHE-10 level, which includes vehicle mechanics and heavy duty vehicle mechanics. Appointments may be permanent or temporary depending on the need of the Unit.
This inventory may be used to staff similar positions within the Department of National Defence and other government departments.
The inventory will be updated every 180 days. You will receive a notice in your applicant account 14 days before the end of your active period to determine whether or not you wish to keep being considered for an additional 180 days.

A response to a text question addressing the following:
Possession of a valid Interprovincial Journeyman Proficiency Certificate (Red Seal) or valid Provincial Certificate in the applicable province of employment as an Automotive Service or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.
OR
Military Vehicle Technician Qualification Level 5 certificate.
Significant* and recent** experience working as a mechanic in the repair and maintenance of commercial diesel vehicles or heavy duty equipment and vehicles.
*Significant is defined as minimum 3 years cumulative technically experience.
** Recent is defined as experience obtained within the last 5 years.
Possession of a valid vehicle airbrakes operator’s qualification.
Experience using SAP programs, such as DRMIS.
Experience working with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel or CAF diesel and heavy duty equipment and vehicles, as a CAF member, DND Contractor or civilian employee (casual and student employment included).

This process can be used to staff supervisory positions. Managers reserve the right to invoke and assess supervisory competencies in these cases.

Willing and able to lift up to 25 kg in accordance to safety standards and procedures.
Possession of a valid (unrestricted and non-graduated) Canadian provincial or territorial driver’s license such as Class 3 – Commercial License in Alberta.
Provision of an acceptable driver’s abstract, provided within 30 days of request, and dated no earlier than 30 days prior to the request. Acceptable as determined by management.
Must wear CSA approved safety footwear at all times and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Willing and able to obtain/maintain a DND 404.
Willing and able to work overtime as required, at times on short notice.
Willing and able to be available for call back outside of core working hours.
Willing and able to work from heights.
Willing and able to work outside in inclement weather.
Willing and able to attend all employer directed training.
Willing and able to travel within area of responsibility for tasks, which may or may not require overnight stays.
