Assist in pathology research mainly on tan spot and stripe rust of wheat. Duties includes screening plant material for disease reaction, maintain and grow plant pathogens, assist in basic molecular biology, cytology and genetic experiments, collect and analyse data, prepare scientific reports and present data.
Immediate need: 1 full time temporary position (1 year).
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biochemistry, plant biology or in a related agricultural program.
Experience working with plant disease of fungal nature.
Experience in double haploid production in wheat.
Experience providing technical support for research in greenhouse or laboratory environment.
Experience in conducting molecular biology techniques such as DNA, RNA extraction, PCR and protein purification.
Experience following, developing, and documenting protocols for gene expression.
Experience following, developing, and documenting protocols for quantitative PCR (qPCR).
Experience following, developing, and documenting protocols for doubled haploid production of wheat.
Experience following, developing, and documenting protocols for analysing breeding lines for resistance to stripe rust disease of wheat using gene specific/linked markers.
Experience following, developing, and documenting protocols for phenotyping of wheat plants for stripe rust disease severity.
Experience following, developing, and documenting protocols for crossing and harvesting of wheat lines for different trait studies.
