Highly skilled investigators are deployed to the sites of transportation occurrences (incidents or accidents) to collect information; they do research and analysis to identify the causes of the occurrence and identify risks, and finally prepare detailed reports for publication. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the PSEA. This being said the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB has a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.
The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.
**The current position to be staffed is located in Dorval, QC.

Secondary School diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Occupational Certification
Locomotive engineer, conductor.
Note: Occupational certification need not be valid at the time of application.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in the railway industry in the field of train operations.
Various language requirements
Unilingual: English Essential
Bilingual imperative: BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC
Information on language requirements
Knowledge
Knowledge of the North American railway network including train operation practices, rules and standards.
Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory framework applicable to rail transportation and/or accident investigations.
Abilities and Skills
Ability to identify the possible safety deficiencies involved in an accident and formulate corresponding corrective actions.
Ability to plan and effectively manage their work and at times a team in a high-pressure environment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

University degree from a recognized institution in a field related to the position being filled.

Experience
Experience in working in railway management.
Railway experience in the province of Québec or the Maritimes.

Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.
Be able and agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.
Be able and agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.
Be able and agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.
Willingness to be available on standby, on a rotational basis.
Willingness to undergo TSB required training.
