Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff two positions located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, one on an indeterminate basis, and one on a term. A pool of prequalified candidates may also be established to staff similar positions at Fisheries and Oceans Canada with various tenures, various linguistic requirements, and for various conditions of employment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
Graduation from a recognized university with a master's degree in library science or in library and information science or graduation from a recognized university with a bachelor's degree in library science or in library and information science for which another bachelor's degree was a prerequisite.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Recent experience* (see note 1) providing research or reference services in a library.
Recent experience* (see note 1) conducting searches using commercial online bibliographic databases, print sources and the Internet to respond to client requests in a library environment.

Note 1: * Recent is defined as experience normally associated with full time performance of the duties for at least 3 months within the last two (2) years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience:
Experience writing library instructional materials and user guides,
Experience delivering library orientation and training sessions.
Experience providing library reference services in a fisheries and oceans related work environment.
Experience using the Sierra integrated library system (ILS) to deliver library services.
Experience using the Summon discovery tool to deliver library services.
Experience selecting and evaluating print and electronic library information resources.
Experience delivering library reference services via chat.
Experience providing research or reference services in a specialized (corporate or government) library or in an academic library.

Knowledge of research and reference techniques for the provision of library services.
Knowledge of information sources used to deliver reference services.
Knowledge of current issues and emerging trends and technologies affecting library operations.

Ability to provide bibliographic instruction.
Ability to organize work and set priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Operational Requirements:
Due to service delivery requirements, agreement to work 8:30 to 4:30 daily and the ability to work 5 days/week will be required.
