Information on language requirements

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma, and graduation with an acceptable diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in electronics, instrumentation, electrical engineering technology, or other specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
EX1: Experience* working in one or more of the following areas: instrumentation, electrical engineering, or radiofrequency transmission and receiving.
EX2: Demonstrated experience in the design, building, or assembly of mechanical equipment (e.g. demonstrated by hands-on skills in woodworking, metal working, vehicle repair, machining, or equivalent).

* Experience normally gained through two year technical diploma training would be considered as relevant experience toward appointment at an EG-03 level. Additional experience normally associated with full time performance of the duties will contribute to the applicants assessed years of relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE:
K1: Knowledge of programming using procedural languages such as C, Fortran, etc. OR object-oriented languages like Python, Java, etc.

ABILITIES:
A1: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
A2: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
AEX1: Work experience** working in one or more of the following areas: instrumentation, electrical engineering, or radiofrequency transmission and receiving.
AEX2: Experience working as part of a technical or scientific team.
AEX3: Experience planning and conducting tests or measurements in austere environments (remote, isolated, lack of on-site support services).
AEX4: Experience as the principal point of contact or lead technologist for a facility or complex capability suite.
AEX5: Experience working in a military environment, particularly in military search or counter-improvised device defeat.
AEX6: Experience in computer programming for scientific or technical applications.
AEX7: Experience in data analysis for scientific or technical applications.
AEX8: Experience using electronic test and measurement equipment.
AEX9: Experience in the measurement and analysis of electromagnetic fields.
AEX10: Experience operating high power electromagnetic field generation equipment.


** Work experience, defined as having depth and breadth of experience normally associated with full time performance of the duties.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE:
AK1: Knowledge of electronics design.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to obtain and retain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence. Must be able to obtain and retain a DND 404 licence.
Must be willing to work with electromagnetic radiation hazards.
Must be willing to work with hazardous chemicals and explosive materials.
Must be willing and able to work in a field setting (non-laboratory) including in adverse weather conditions.
Must be willing and able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 kg over rough terrain.
Must be willing and able to travel for government business for periods possibly in excess of one week at a time.
Must be willing and able to work overtime at peak periods.

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Reliability Status security clearance.
Must be able to obtain and retain a Secret (Level II) security clearance.
