The successful candidate will assist the senior technicians with the following:
• Harvest of breeding material and yield trials in the fall.
• Soil sampling and sample preparation.
• Cleaning and weighing seed samples and collecting sub-samples for quality analysis.
• Gathering seed-quality data and recording data in spreadsheets.
• Packaging seed for seeding in the spring.
• Treating seed with an appropriate seed treatment to prevent fungal diseases and insect damage.
• Preparing seed for shipment to collaborators.
Immediate need: 1 full time temporary position (8 months - from September 2019 to April 2020).
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Successful completion of secondary school or acceptable combination of experience and education.
Experience with hand-harvesting plants or seeds.
Experience with the operation of small-scale farm equipment such as garden tractors or mowers.
Experience working in a greenhouse environment.
Experience maintaining field equipment (e.g. tractors, farm trucks, harvesters and seeders).

Knowledge of pulse crops in Alberta.
Knowledge of seed-cleaning techniques and preparation of seed samples for quality analysis.
Knowledge of soil sampling and sample preparation for analysis.
