$29.63 to $32.20 per hour (Plus an Inmate Training Differencial allowance of 7-9% (depending on the number of inmates supervised on a regular basis) and a Correctional Service Specific Duty Allowance of $2,000 per year- allowances may be subject to change)

Duties

Performs alterations, repairs, maintenance and retrofitting to and inspection of institutional motor vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment and ground maintenance equipment.

The Technical Services, Prairie Region, of Correctional Service Canada is a stimulating and dynamic environment whose mission is to ensure the operation, compliance and sustainability of a real estate portfolio of more than $ 8 billion dollars in an operational environment . We are responsible for institutions and penitentiary clusters as well as parole offices and community correctional centers located throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The facilities we manage are diverse such as buildings and structures, building mechanics systems, electrical distribution networks, infrastructures, generators, oil tanks, thermal power stations, water treatment and purification plants, roads, fences and barriers, and automobile fleets to name only a few.

EDUCATION

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Possession of a valid Provincial Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Equipment
Service Technician certification.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Significant* experience as an automotive or heavy equipment mechanic or technician.

Experience interpreting and applying automotive or heavy equipment precautions and practices associated with mechanical work.

*Significant experience is defined as two years experience in the last five years.

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of any work related continuing education courses related to
mechanical or other automotive/heavy-equipment maintenance.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

PEP certification: Preventative maintenance program.
Training on Heavy vehicles.

EXPERIENCE

Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System for vehicle fleet maintenance.
Experience maintaining Fleet Vehicle Records.
Experience in retro-fitting vehicles to add equipment such as Detector Dog Handler Vehicles, Motorized Patrols or Security Escort Vehicles.
Experience in welding or metal fabrication.
Experience maintaining diesel engines.
Experience supervising individuals.
Experience training individuals.
Experience working in a correctional facility.
