A team of professionals who contribute by having an impact on the safe transportation of dangerous goods and helping Canadians.

Our long term goal is to train you to become a fully operational and independent member of the emergency centre. In this perspective, you may be required to work shifts (day, evening and overnight) on a rotational basis as CANUTEC services are offered 24 hours a day and 365 days per year.
If you decide to join the team, it will be as a Junior Emergency Response Advisor at the CH-02 group and level. An Emergency Response Advisor (CH-03) works both in the emergency centre and on projects outside of the centre. Working in the centre requires an Emergency Response Advisor to work on shifts and, can work without supervision. When not working in the center, they lead and coordinate projects.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT – WORKING SHIFTS
It is important to know that due to the requirement of doing shift work, you will have access to interesting benefits and premiums as well as different allowances as per the collective agreement.
THE TEAM
CANUTEC is a team composed of about 25 employees who report to one Director. The team is divided between the CANUTEC Registration team and the Emergency Response Advisors (CH-02 and CH-03). All the Emergency Response Advisors report to two Managers, the Operations Manager for their work in the emergency center and the Research and Publications Manager for their work on their projects.
CANUTEC is a national advisory service that operates on a 24/7 basis assisting emergency response personnel in managing dangerous goods emergencies.
CANUTEC is part of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) directorate whose primary mandate is to promote public safety in the transportation of dangerous goods by all modes.
The management team understands that making the jump from a regular science job to emergency management can be intimidating. This is why we support scientists who have the emergency world calling with robust, hands-on training, alongside the theory training.
Your main focus as a Junior Emergency Response Advisor is on the emergency centre. When you are not working in the emergency centre, you will improve your skills and maintain your knowledge by collaborating to projects that play a key role in supporting the first responder community.
An example of CANUTEC’s projects is the publication of the Emergency Response Guidebook, developed in collaboration with the US, Mexico and Argentina: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/canutec/guide-menu-227.htm
