Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) work together to fulfill the Government of Canada’s mission to defend Canadian interests and values, and to contribute to international peace and security. The Cadet Program is one of the largest federally sponsored youth programs in Canada. It is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the Sea, Army and Air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to fill one immediate EG-05 vacancy in Greenwood, NS and to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various linguistic profiles, security clearances, for various tenures within the Department of National Defence.

Please note that this staffing process may be used to staff positions in other regions according to the operational need.

Possession of a valid Driver’s Licence.

Degree equivalency

Possession of a current Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence M1 or M2 category issued by Transport Canada

EXPERIENCE
Experience in the repair, servicing and maintenance of fixed wing aircraft.
Experience in the use of Microsoft programs Word, Excel or Outlook.
Experience in heavy maintenance and structural repairs
Experience in the interpretation and application of Airworthiness Directives and Service Bulletins

Possession of a current S Licence and/or experience on structural repairs.
Possession of a current Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence M1 category issued by Transport Canada.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
Experience in the maintenance, repair and servicing of Schweizer gliders and Light aircraft.
Experience in completing engine installations and rigging of engine.
Experience in the application and repair of fabric aircraft coverings.
Experience in a DND aircraft maintenance organization as an aircraft technician or civilian Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO).
Experience in the Air Cadet Program gained as a cadet or as an adult working in support of the program.
Experience in sheet metal or steel tube structure fabrication and repair.
Experience in the use of OR credentials related to training on regulations pertaining to the movement of aircraft on active ramps.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the maintenance of Schweizer gliders and Light aircraft associated components.
Knowledge of regulations pertaining to the movement of aircraft on active ramps.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - and Police Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Screening

Must be willing and able to work weekends and overtime as and when required.

Must be willing and able to work through the June to August period. Leave and vacation time during this period is extremely restricted due to the operational needs of the unit.

Must be willing and able to travel to various locations throughout Canada for meetings, conferences and to perform unscheduled maintenance on aircraft.

Possession of a valid Provincial Driver’s Licence leading to obtaining a military DND 404 driver’s license.

Must be willing and able to lift heavy objects up to 45 kg (99 lbs) and stand for long periods of time.

For some locations: Must be willing and able to accept temporary duty for extended periods of time during the June to August period.
