Duties

Develop requirements and prepare specifications and Statements of Work for maintenance service and site-managed maintenance project contracts; Initiate requisitions and requests for contracts and for the purchase of goods related to facilities maintenance; support tendering processes and bid evaluations; Manage and maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with administrator privileges for the service cluster; Complete annual reviews and make recommendations for the development and/or assist with the implementation of facility maintenance specific Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs for the service cluster, such as fall protection, electrical lock-out/tag-out procedures, confined space, etc. and related training. Service cluster refers to a group of institutions, including Healing Lodges and Community Correctional Centres (CCC).

Work environment

The Technical Services, Prairie Region, of Correctional Service Canada is a stimulating and dynamic environment whose mission is to ensure the operation, compliance and sustainability of a real estate portfolio of more than $8 billion dollars in an operational environment. We are responsible for institutions and penitentiary clusters as well as parole offices and community correctional centers located throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The facilities we manage are diverse such as buildings and structures, building mechanics systems, electrical distribution networks, infrastructures, generators, oil tanks, thermal power stations, water treatment and purification plants, roads, fences and barriers, and automobile fleets to name only those.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Recent and significant* experience providing facility maintenance services in an institutional setting (example: prison, hospital, school, etc).

Experience contributing to maintenance budgets and plans.

Experience providing advice and guidance to management to facilitate planning, managing and leading facilities management projects.

*Recent and significant is defined as 2 years in the last 5 years.

Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations which impact on facilities maintenance, safety and security activities.

Graduation with a college diploma in engineering technology or another discipline related to the position.
Graduation with a degree in mechanical, electrical or civil engineering.
Applicable Provincial certification required to perform the duties of the position.
A certificate of qualification in a trade associated with facilities maintenance.

Degree equivalency

Experience developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.
Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System.
Experience developing requests for project proposals.
Experience providing fleet management support services.
Experience interpreting architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings, work orders, specifications and manufacturers data.

Willingness and ability to travel to various locations.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Agreement to undergo and acquire any specific training or certification deemed a bona fide requirement for the position.

Must be able to work and lift tools and equipment at the maximum level prescribed under provincial health and safety regulations.

Must be able to respond to urgencies as required based on environments operating in a 24/7 facility.

Must have a valid driver license.

Willingness to work overtime.
