Under the supervision of a research scientist in conjunction with a university professor from the university where the student is recruited, the candidate will conduct research in the area of microbiology, molecular biology, and chicken physiology, such as determining phage receptors on host bacteria, stabilizing phage and its host for field application and other work as requested.
The lab is located at the Guelph Research and Development Centre – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Guelph, ON). The incumbent will apply molecular biological and microbiological techniques and be working with a food safety research team. The project aims for developing alternative to antibiotics to and reducing the use of antibiotics while improving poultry gut health and product safety.

MSc of Science degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in microbiology, molecular biology or relevant field
Currently enrolled or accepted in a full time PhD program at University of Guelph
with specialization in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
Experience* in culturing bacteria
Experience* in molecular biological techniques (e.g. but not limited to: PCR, cloning)
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
