Duties

As a project officer with the Facilities and Accommodations unit, you will be part of a team responsible for coordinating various operational and maintenance services (i.e. inspections, repairs, service contracts) for DFO facilities located in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick such as lighthouses, offices, laboratories, search and rescue stations, fish hatcheries and fishways. There will also be opportunities on occasion to travel by helicopter to our island lighthouse properties! You will have the opportunity to work closely with various DFO and Coast Guard program staff housed at these facilities and learn about the exciting work done by DFO and CCG!

Intent of the process

This selection process will initially be used to staff one anticipatory indeterminate (permanent) position in Dartmouth, NS. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established to fill similar positions of various tenures and security requirements.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Building Systems, Civil Engineering, Electrical, Industrial Mechanics, Architectural or another field related to the design, operation or maintenance of facilities OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience maintaining or coordinating the maintenance or repair of facilities or small renovation projects in an institutional setting (e.g. government building, laboratory, hospital, school, etc.).

Experience completing inspections of facilities or buildings for the purpose of identifying deficiencies and maintenance requirements or recommendations for repairs.

Experience writing technical documents such as requests for proposals, scopes/statements of work, specifications or conceptual designs for the provision of contracted services.

Experience managing projects including maintaining files, monitoring budgets and managing consultants or contractors.

Experience developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with clients, consultants or contractors.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience developing and implementing a facility preventative maintenance program.

Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System.

Experience in participating in Building Condition Assessments.

Experience using AutoCAD software.

Experience in the interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications.

Requirement to travel throughout assigned territory within the Maritime Provinces. Helicopter travel may be required on occasion.
