The student will conduct a case study to assess the costs, benefits and drivers for decision making for agricultural practices for water quality improvement. The work will be associated with a new AAFC project in Manitoba entitled the Eastern Prairie Living Lab project. At least one producer site will be selected as a case study over a two year period to quantify the costs and environmental benefits associated with a given agricultural practice, co-developed between AAFC researchers and the producer. The student will work with researchers from Science and Technology Branch and Strategic Policy Branch. An assessment of the drivers for practice adoption will also be conducted and will include at least one indigenous agriculture site. This will involve developing an experimental design, collection of data, and reporting results.
The student will work on a case study approach with producers in southern Manitoba to assess the costs and benefits, and drivers for decision making related to agricultural practices for water quality improvement. The position will work in laboratory and field environments. Working outside will involve the deployment and maintenance of instruments and the collection of samples (e.g. water, soil, plant tissue). Lab work will involve sample processing and work on computers organizing and preparing data for graphics and reports.

Currently enrolled/or willing to enroll in a Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD program in a recognize post-secondary academic institution with specialization in: Environmental Science, Environment and Geography.
Experience* working in agricultural regions on environmental or socio-economic projects.
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
