The duties of these positions relate to providing technical and analytical support for laboratory projects in aquatic science related to nutrition of aquatic animals.
For the Lab Supervisor (EG-04) position duties include: serving as technician-in-charge of assigned scientific projects; planning logistics for execution of nutrition trials, including coordination of personnel and equipment; operating and maintaining specialized equipment for feed preparation (mixers, pelletizers, etc.) and chemical analysis (e.g., protein, fat, fatty acids, etc.); handling and feeding aquatic animals according to prescribed methods; collecting data and maintaining databases using a variety of computer software for statistical and preliminary data analysis and production of summary reports.
For the research technicians (EG-03), the key activities include: assisting technician-in-charge of assigned scientific projects; operating and maintaining specialized equipment for feed preparation (mixers, pelletizers, etc.) and chemical analysis (e.g., protein, fat, fatty acids, etc.); handling and feeding aquatic animals according to prescribed methods; collecting data and maintaining databases using a variety of computer software for statistical and preliminary data analysis.
The successful candidates will be able to work independently in the laboratory to chemically analyze ingredients, diets, and fish, possibly including proximate composition, energy, and fatty acids.
The immediate need is to staff one indeterminate EG-04 Lab Supervisor position in West Vancouver, two part time (3 days a week) EG-03 Educational Outreach positions are anticipated and a pool for hiring casual and term EG-03 Research Technicians.

EDUCATION
• Completion of a recognized post-secondary program in a field of natural, physical or applied sciences relevant to the duties of the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience in the care and feeding of freshwater or marine fish in a research environment.
• Experience using, maintaining, and troubleshooting specialized aquatic science field or laboratory equipment
• Experience using statistical software to analyze data

EDUCATION
• Completion of a degree with a specialization in biology or relevant area of study.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience in working with aquatic animals under conditions of nutrition research, including feeding and/or digestibility trials.
• Experience in operation, calibration and maintenance of specialized scientific equipment, e.g., HPLC and GC.
• Experience working with water quality assessment equipment (dissolved oxygen, ammonia, pH, etc.).
• Experience with use of a variety of laboratory analyses and equipment, including proximate analysis under research conditions.
• Experience developing and delivering educational programs related to oceans literacy
• Experience working with partners to implement/ plan educational programing.
