Have you ever wanted to work for the RCMP but not carry a gun? This advertised opportunity is for an entry level position as a Public Service Employee with the RCMP.

~~ The PROS Data Centre (PDC) provides support to frontline police officers by completing their data entries. This primarily involves transcribing reports recorded by police officers and entering the required data into a variety of computer platforms. This operational assistance enhances the quality and accuracy of police records and reduces the time a police officer may spend in front of a computer so they can concentrate their efforts towards police investigations. ~~

Intent of the process

This selection process will initially be used to staff one vacant term position. A pool of qualified candidates will be established which may be used to staff future indeterminate or term positions.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of secondary school, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

• Experience in data entry (eg. Microsoft Word or Excel)
• Experience using electronic mail, such as Microsoft Outlook, to send and/or receive messages
• Experience providing service to internal or external clients or general public, via telephone or in person.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
(Note: Written Communication Skills will be assessed throughout application process.)

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

• Experience providing administrative support services in a law enforcement, judicial or quasi-judicial environment
• Experience maintaining a law enforcement database such as: Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Police Information Retrieval Systems (PIRS), Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS), Automated Criminal Intelligence Information System (ACIIS), National Criminal Data Bank (NCDB).
• Experience transcribing statements from audio cassettes or digital media.
• Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license or personal mobility normally associated with a valid driver’s license.

• Willing and able to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation (including owned or leased government transport, commercial and light aircraft and up to and including remote locations).

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS) security clearance.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a RCMP Security Clearance throughout their employment. This requires a Security/Reliability Interview, and a field investigation in matters of Criminal Activities, credit/finances, education, employment, reference, etc.

2. Ability and willingness to wear a headset, and be exposed to multiple computer screens and noise disturbances for extended periods of time

The OEPAF is a competency evaluation tool used in staffing processes for administrative support positions. This skills test contains multiple choice questions. The scenarios are related to setting priorities, data entry, administrative document verification, and communication skills. This test will be used to evaluate the following merit criteria:
» Ability to transmit information
» Detail-oriented
» Being organized
» Action-oriented
The retest period for the OEPAF is 180 days. If you submit an application before the retest period has elapsed, your application will not be considered.

• Candidates invited to an interview will be required to bring proof of their education credentials, in the form of a diploma or official transcript (original documents only). Candidates who are unable to provide proof that they meet this essential qualification as requested may be eliminated from the process.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.
