Assessment accommodation

The application process includes screening questions that will be used as part of the assessment. As such, it is imperative that candidates adequately complete the screening questionnaire.

Work environment

Working in a correctional institutional environment with offenders and staff members.

Provision of assistance in the preparation, distribution and service of meals and preparation and distribution of groceries to offenders in an institution of the Correctional Service of Canada or a Regional Food Production Centre (RFPC).

Training of offenders in the area of Food Services to improve their employability skills and behaviours.

Intent of the process

Results of this process will be to create pool of qualified candidates from which future indeterminate and/or specified period vacancies may be filled. This process may be used to staff similar positions in the Pacific Region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Recent experience* working in food services within a commercial or institutional setting.
Experience in the preparation and distribution of short order cooking

*Note: The above experience may have been obtained while serving as a member in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Knowledge of food preparation and service techniques (e.g. portion control, measuring ingredients, operating kitchen equipment etc.)

Knowledge of preparation and food handling procedures

Knowledge of safe lifting and carrying techniques

ABILITIES
Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations accurately

Ability to communicate effectively orally

EDUCATION:
- Successful completion of a secondary school diploma
- Possession of a valid recognized Safe Food Handling Program certification
- Professional Culinary Art diploma

- Experience working in a correctional environment (institutional or community office)
