As part of a research program, the incumbent will lead independent research projects (under the guidance of Research Scientist) focused on cropping systems and agronomy.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading independent research projects (under guidance of AAFC Research Scientist) focused on agronomy and cropping systems of small grain crops.
- Contributing to the development of models that predict yield gaps of western Canadian wheat production and in situ wheat trait responses.
- Managing laboratory and field operations related to the program.
- Preparing reports, proposals and research papers.
- Maintaining quality control and troubleshooting to ensure accurate results.
Immediate need: 2 full time temporary positions (duration of 2 years).
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.

Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in plant sciences with a specialization in agronomy or other specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Experience conducting agronomic research in wheat and canola cropping systems, using common experimental field designs.
Experience using SAS statistical software and applications to perform ANOVA and modelling procedures.
Experience summarizing results in figures and table format from SAS outputs, using MS Office software applications
Doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in agronomy or plant science.
Experience leading projects in a research or laboratory environment.
Experience writing and publishing scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed science journals.

Knowledge of crop production for western Canadian crops.
Knowledge of the Global Yield Gap Atlas and the Wheat Initiative.
Knowledge of statistical methods and procedures within SAS.
Knowledge of statistical analysis to develop models for environmental conditions leading to hypothesized crop responses.
