DFO is responsible for policies and programs in support of Canada's economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters; for the conservation and sustainable utilization of Canada's fisheries resources in marine and inland waters; for leading and facilitating federal policies and programs on oceans; and for safe, effective and environmentally sound marine services responsive to the needs of Canadians in a global economy.

Intent of the process

This is a term position in Prescott, ON AND Parry Sound, ON. The anticipated number of position(s) that may be staffed with this advertised process is two (2); however, a pool of qualified candidates will be established through this staffing process and may be used to staff similar positions with different tenures (i.e. on a term, acting or an indeterminate basis).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of approved post-secondary education (minimum diploma) in an Engineering, Construction, or Electrical Technician field, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

- Recent experience* in providing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, or electrical, or heating ventilation and air conditions systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
- Recent experience* in building maintenance planning.
- Recent experience* in supervision of sub-contractors.
- Recent experience* in providing operational, technical or maintenance advice to management and clients on building systems.

*Recent experience is defined as experience gained within the last two years. Candidates should explain the depth of experience as well, I.e. continuous, cyclical, sporadic, or single occasion

- Knowledge of the related Codes and/or Standards that may apply to building design, building systems, building construction, and building maintenance. i.e. Canadian Labour Code, Fire Codes, Electrical Codes, Building Codes.

- Ability to interpret architectural or engineering drawings (including building plans and schematics)

- Candidates should indicate possession and level achieved of one or more of the following Certifications in the Province of Ontario:
• Residential, commercial or Master Electrician
• Construction certification
• Skilled trades certification

- Experience working with the following:
• Canadian Labour Code;
• Fire Codes;
• Electrical Codes;
• Building Codes.

- Experience in operation of small machinery, i.e. forklift, gator or tractor.
- Experience in the conduct of maintenance or constriction activities in the marine or remote/isolated environments.
- Experience in conducting inspections of building systems.
- Experience using project management systems/software (such as, but not limited to, the National Project Management System (NPMS))

- Knowledge of inspection or investigation or audit practices and techniques for conducting or administering facilities maintenance management.
- Knowledge and application of Project management principles and practices.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- Must be willing and able to undertake On-call or Standby like functions, and respond in urgent, emergency situations, based upon contract provisions, and in recognition that various clients operate year round on a 24/7 basis.
- Willing and able to work in remote locations, and in recognition of the various modes of transportation required, via land, sea or air or any combination thereof.
- Willing and able to physically work in light to medium industrial facilities with associated offices, combination office and laboratory facilities or small buildings and adjacent to, or within a marine environment with exposure to noise, mechanical/electrical machinery, fuels/lubricants.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license or mobility associated with having a driver’s licence.
