Intent of the process

An inventory for casual opportunities will be established from this process, which may be used to staff short-term vacancies within the Department of Justice Canada, this includes our Legal Services Units located in each government department. These vacancies may require various language requirements, operational requirements, condition of employment and/or work locations.

► ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

1. You must meet the education requirement related to the position that is of interest to you as outlined below:

►Legal Assistant (CR):

• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

►Legal Counsel (LP):

• A bachelor of law degree.
• Eligibility for membership in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada or in the Order of Notaries in the Province of Quebec.

► Paralegals (EC):

• Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field.

2. You cannot be employed as a term or indeterminate employee in the Public Service.

Q. As I complete the online application, I am being asked many questions regarding my experience. Do I have to respond to them all? What will you do with my responses?

Q. Will you use random selection when conducting your searches?
A. As a means to manage high volumes we may use random selection. For example, we may ask the system to provide us with 50 random applications who meet our search criteria.

A. Yes, an interview will be conducted. Since this is for casual opportunities the interview may be informal in nature .

A. No, this inventory has been established to assist the Department in meeting short term (casual) needs only.

DEFINITION:

Casual worker is defined as:

Casual workers are hired for specified periods that may not exceed 90 working days in one calendar year, in a department or in an agency to which the Public Service Commission (PSC) has exclusive authority to make appointments. The period of casual employment may be for one or more than one term, but is not to exceed 90 working days in a department or agency in a calendar year.
