Duties

• Contributing to scientific hypothesis building and design of experiments.
• Primarily responsible for set-up, monitoring, and data collection of one major experiment, and a team-member contributing to the execution of a second experiment.
• Sample collection, DNA extraction, molecular characterization (PCR), and next-generation sequencing of soil and root samples.
• Microscopy work.
• Some new method development.
• Data analysis using R, QIIME2, and other statistical software as required.
• Responsible for drafting a peer-reviewed publication.

Work environment

Working in a team environment, in a lab and greenhouse settings, with an optional field work component.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Currently enrolled in a Master’s program at the University of Alberta in the Department of Renewable Resources.

Degree equivalency

Experience* with agricultural microbiology techniques including both laboratory, field, and greenhouse work.
Experience* working with both fungi and bacteria.
Experience* with molecular biology techniques.
Experience* with statistical software such as R or SAS.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
