Duties

Transportation of Dangerous Goods Directorate (TDG) Response Operations group –

We work with national and international partners to ensure the highest level of public safety for Canadians during the transportation of dangerous goods. When dangerous goods incidents occur, we oversee emergency response to ensure it is done with the safest tactics and techniques.

You will receive continuous technical training and work with the best responders in the industry. Duties include reviewing Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP), assessing response capabilities of responders, participating in public outreach events, and attending and creating exercises and collaborating in TDG research projects. We work closely with other TDG groups on initiatives such as regulatory updates, policy analysis and emergency preparedness and response.

The assessment will be in-person and will take place in Edmonton, AB or Saskatoon, SK.

ED: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, biochemistry or in another scientific program relevant to the duties of the position.

- Willing and able to travel (by all modes of transportation) occasionally including weekend travel.
- Willing and able to work overtime, including nights, weekends and standby (on call) on short notice.
- May be required to work in situations of physical, psychological and emotional stress.
- Will be subject to and must successfully pass an assessment for medical fitness (including the use of respirators).
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
- Willing and able to wear specialized emergency response protective equipment on occasion.

ASSESSMENT – AVAILABILITY
The assessment may be administered outside of regular working hours including evenings and weekends. If you are unavailable, you must inform us immediately as each request will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation will be required.

ASSESSMENT – RESCHEDULING
Rescheduling will only be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation will be required at the time of your request to be rescheduled.

Possible reasons for alternate assessment dates:
· Medical reason with doctor's certificate;
· Death in the immediate family;
· Professional obligation (proof required);
· Confirmation of pre-approved travel plans; or
· Religious reasons.
