Duties

We are seeking a research biologist to conduct research on Campylobacter jejuni, with an emphasis on research in genomics and molecular epidemiology. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary research team to generate novel findings and scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Intent of the process

Immediate need: 1 full time temporary position (duration of 2 years).

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a Ph.D. from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in microbiology, epidemiology, molecular biology, genomics, or in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

IF YOU HAVE FOREIGN CREDENTIALS, please follow the link below for information on how to obtain a degree equivalency. You must obtain an equivalency, at your own expense, in order to be considered for appointment into the public service.

Degree equivalency

Experience conducting molecular microbiological research including the subtyping of bacteria using genomic methods.
Experience recording, organizing, and analyzing data.
Experience preparing and presenting research outcomes.
Experience writing reports and scientific manuscripts.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience working in a Containment Level 2 laboratory.
Experience working with Campylobacter jejuni.
Experience providing support and leading projects in a research environment.
Experience with whole genome sequencing methodology.
Experience with molecular epidemiological methodology.
Experience with relevant bioinformatic and statistical analysis software.
Documented scientific productivity/recognition in the form of authorship/editorship of research results in recognized scientific journals, and published reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from scientific research.
