The incumbent will perform experiments and analyses for the development of gene specific markers for selection of Fusarium head blight resistance in spring wheat. The work will entail the generation of fine mapping populations followed by high-throughput single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping, quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, and RNA sequencing. Then sequencing data will be used for SNP discovery to develop gene markers using in-house produced bioinformatic scripts. Validation of markers will be accomplished through contribution to field and greenhouse phenotyping along with genotyping of breeding populations. The incumbent will work with scientists at the local, national, and international levels and with other stakeholders to maintain relevant research direction.
